Andorra Issues Yellow Alert for Intense Thunderstorms Nationwide Monday

Andorra's meteorological service has activated a yellow alert for intense thunderstorms starting at midday Monday, with showers expected to affect the entire country and carry electrical activity.

The alert warns of locally heavy rainfall that could exceed 5mm in 30 minutes, more widespread than Sunday's storms. Showers may continue until 9pm, driven by high pressure giving way to cooler upper air, daytime heat, and lingering moisture from recent rain. Maximum temperatures will reach 29°C in Andorra la Vella, 24°C at 1,500m elevation, and 13°C at Pas de la Casa.

The alert follows a similar yellow warning issued Sunday for thunderstorms from 3pm to 9pm, linked to a weather disturbance from southern Iberia. Forecasters had predicted convective clouds leading to brief, intense showers, especially in southern Andorra during central and late afternoon hours. Monday's advisory runs from noon to 6pm, with heightened storm risk in the south.

Overall, maximum temperatures have eased slightly from recent days amid mild seasonal conditions, while minimums remain stable around 14°C in the capital and 8°C at the ski resort.

Meteorologists urge close monitoring of updates, particularly during afternoon peaks when precipitation and storm risks will concentrate.
