The 1.3-km extension enhances fire prevention and forest management, with public consultation open for one

Andorra la Vella has launched the second phase of a forest track project in Solobre woodland, spanning more than 1.3 kilometres from kilometre point PK 0+340 to PK 1+368. Public consultation on the plans began on Wednesday, June 3, and will run for one month.

The project strengthens fire prevention and forest management in the area, particularly by protecting the deciduous woodland strip that serves as a natural firebreak for higher elevations. It continues from the first phase, creating over one kilometre of new path integrated into the natural surroundings and linking to the green ring network as a dedicated nature itinerary.

Councillor for Public Services, Environment and Natural Heritage Jordi Cabanes described the phase as a further step in protecting Solobre forest. He highlighted its strategic role in bolstering management practices and building resilience against fire risks.

Work will involve earthmoving and terrain stabilisation, along with drainage systems and retaining walls on steeper sections to ensure path stability and prevent erosion. Protective barriers and signage will be added where needed, improving safety for forestry maintenance crews as well as visitors exploring the area.

The initiative includes technical and environmental studies to minimise ecological impact and promote transparency. Construction is scheduled over 14 months, mainly during autumn and winter. Cabanes noted that cooler periods provide more stable ground conditions for these operations, reducing overall disruption to the site.
