The C-14 road has reopened to traffic after firefighters stabilised a wildfire that broke out on Sunday near the entrance to Ponts, in Catalonia's Noguera region.
The blaze, reported at 17:48, burned forest vegetation close to the road to La Seu d'Urgell at kilometre 103. It prompted a full closure of the C-14 in both directions for several hours, causing significant tailbacks amid the weekend return traffic towards Andorra. Queues stretched over two kilometres towards Lleida and disrupted movement through the town centre.
Firefighters from the Generalitat deployed up to 17 units at peak intensity, including 12 ground teams and five aerial resources from the Special Actions Group (MAER). Provisional figures from rural agents put the affected area at around 6.5 hectares. No details have emerged on personal injuries or material damage.
Although stabilised, extinguishing efforts continue. Around 30 units will remain overnight to check the perimeter, cool hotspots and prevent re-ignition. The incident occurred under high-risk conditions, with the area at forest fire alert level 3.
An separate accident on the N-145 compounded traffic issues on this key route to the Principat. Rural agents are investigating the fire's cause.
