Andorra's Civil Protection has declared a pre-alert for very high wildfire risk—level 2—in the central and southern regions, alongside a pre-alert for high temperatures, following an orange weather warning issued that morning. The fire service bulletin rates danger as high (level 1) elsewhere in the country.
The alert coincides with the fifth heatwave of the summer, starting midday Wednesday. Valley floors could see peaks of 36°C, with northern areas exceeding 30°C at 1,500 metres. No rain is forecast, limiting overnight cooling, particularly in towns.
This prolonged spell may last until at least next Wednesday. Open fires and pyrotechnics are banned, while barbecue areas face restrictions. Officials urge caution in natural areas, asking people to avoid discarding lit cigarettes or matches and to use waste bins properly.
For heat protection, authorities recommend frequent hydration, avoiding strenuous activity and outdoor exposure during peak hours, wearing light clothing, shielding the head, and closing sun-facing windows and shutters. Light meals, skipping hot foods and alcohol, and extra care for infants, the elderly, those with health conditions, and pets are also advised.
