Andorra Keeps Wildfire Risk at Very High in Central and Southern Parishes

Protecció Civil maintains orange alerts through evening in central and southern Andorra due to extreme heat and dry conditions. Several barbecue areas closed, with picnics limited to cold foods only.

Key Points

  • Wildfire risk level 2 (very high) in Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany, Encamp below 2,000m; level 1 in north.
  • Encamp closes Grau Roig barbecue area; Escaldes-Engordany and Andorra la Vella sites remain shut.
  • Picnic zones open but restricted to cold foods; nationwide fire ban in effect amid 36°C heatwave.
  • Temperatures to drop Thursday, but dry vegetation keeps forests vulnerable; caution urged.

Protecció Civil d'Andorra continues to classify wildfire risk at level 2—very high—for central and southern parishes below 2,000 metres, covering Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany, and Encamp, while northern areas remain at level 1, or high risk. Orange alerts persist in the centre and south, with yellow in the north, through the evening amid a heatwave that peaked Wednesday at up to 36°C.

The comú of Encamp has now temporarily closed the Grau Roig barbecue area due to the high temperatures and fire risk, following recommendations from Protecció Civil. This adds to its earlier closure of the Cortals barbecue facilities. In Escaldes-Engordany, the Font de la Closa and Camí de les Fonts sites remain shuttered until further notice. Andorra la Vella has kept its barbecue areas closed since 23 June.

Picnic zones in these parishes are still accessible but limited to pre-prepared cold foods, as a nationwide ban on fires—including pyrotechnics—remains in effect. Northern facilities follow the same restrictions, barring accelerants such as alcohol or petrol.

Temperatures are forecast to drop on Thursday, which could allow alerts to ease, but dry vegetation leaves forests at risk without additional rain. Protecció Civil emphasises that most fires stem from human activity and urges caution around wooded areas, with daily checks of the online risk map advised.
