Andorra Opens Tender for 1.3km Solobre Forest Firebreak Extension

Andorra la Vella has launched a public tender for the second phase of the Solobre forest firebreak project, which will create a new track spanning more than 1.3 kilometres from kilometre point 0+340 to 1+368.

The council announced the tender on Wednesday after the project cleared a public consultation period without any objections. This stage will complete the forest route started in the first phase, linking it to the green ring network. Officials say it will strengthen fire prevention and improve forest management in the Solobre woodland.

Public Services, Environment and Natural Heritage councillor Jordi Cabanes described the step as essential progress. He noted that the absence of objections during the public exposure period allows work to proceed on safeguarding the forest and enhancing its management.

Companies have until 3pm on 17 September to submit bids via the public procurement platform. The contract provides for 14 months of execution, with most operations planned for autumn and winter. This schedule seeks to minimise environmental impact and benefit from more stable ground conditions.

Cabanes explained that cooler months enable safer work on firmer terrain, making interventions more effective.
