Andorra's UETA Tackles Climate Change with Expert Talks

Andorra's 42nd Summer and Autumn University (UETA) centres on climate change as one of the defining global challenges of the 21st century.

The government-organised series, held at the Consòrcia hall in Andorra la Vella's congress centre on 14, 15, 21 and 22 September, brings together leading international experts to examine the crisis's causes, impacts and potential solutions. All sessions are free and open to the public, with simultaneous French-to-Catalan interpretation available.

The event opens on 14 September with Christian Gollier, a professor at Toulouse School of Economics and a key figure in environmental economics. His talk, "The Economics of Climate (In)action", will evaluate the costs of failing to act and outline policies to drive an efficient, sustainable energy transition.

On 15 September, climatologist Valérie Masson-Delmotte, a former co-chair of a working group for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), will review the current state of the climate crisis and essential adaptation strategies to mitigate its effects.

Marta Torres Gunfaus, climate programme director at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), speaks on 21 September. She will discuss the importance of international cooperation and climate diplomacy in addressing a borderless threat.

The series concludes on 22 September with Marta G. Rivera-Ferre, a researcher specialising in agri-food systems and climate change. Her presentation will focus on reshaping food production and consumption patterns to ensure sustainability, food security and natural resource protection.

The programme highlights environmental, social, economic and geopolitical dimensions of climate change, fostering public understanding and debate on pressing societal issues. UETA has long served as a platform for scientific outreach and reflection on global concerns.
