Andorra la Vella Upgrades Aging Water Pumps at Stadium for Reliable Supply

Andorra la Vella council has brought online a modernized pumping system at the water intake facility of the Joan Samarra Vila Municipal Stadium, replacing pumps over 20 years old for €428,140.

The facility plays a vital role in the parish's water supply, capable of delivering up to 50% of its drinking water by drawing from stadium wells and sending it to the Escaubelles reservoirs. Public Services, Environment and Natural Heritage councillor Jordi Cabanes described the renewal as essential due to the equipment's age and wear, particularly for such a critical operation.

The upgraded system includes four operational pumps plus a backup, all fitted with frequency converters that adjust flow to demand and reduce energy use. Beyond the pumps, the project involved overhauling the management and remote monitoring setup for real-time oversight, replacing the reservoir control panel, updating power and control cabling between the wells and technical room, and installing new safety features.

Council workers from the Drinking Water Network Management Service handled much of the hands-on work, such as removing outdated components, preparing areas, and replacing wiring, Cabanes noted.

These improvements guarantee a reliable water supply for the parish while boosting efficiency and monitoring capabilities.
