Key Points
- The Energy and Climate Change Office and AR+I prepared the diagnosis, presented on 16 October.
- Priorities include strengthening mountain resort competitiveness, diversifying the tourism offer and preserving ecosystems.
- Sector representatives compared findings and proposed measures at a participatory workshop.
- The work forms part of the energy transition and climate change law covering tourism, energy, health and the primary sector.
The government presented a diagnosis of the climate-related risks facing Andorra's tourism sector to industry representatives on Friday, 16 October, in a session that combined a formal presentation with a participatory workshop.
The study was prepared by the Energy and Climate Change Office together with Andorra Recerca + Innovació (AR+I). It identifies the vulnerabilities of Andorran tourism and serves as the starting point for defining adaptation measures.
According to the diagnosis, priority should go to strengthening the competitiveness of mountain resorts, diversifying the tourism offer and preserving ecosystems in the face of new climate scenarios. The aim is to establish the priority actions of a future roadmap that would allow Andorra to maintain its appeal and competitiveness as a mountain destination throughout the year.
At the workshop, sector representatives compared the study's findings and put forward proposals.
David Forné, Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility, argued that work on climate change would allow the country to move towards what he described as an innovative, sustainable and competitive destination.
The initiative forms part of the energy transition and climate change law, which provides for assessing impacts on four sectors: tourism, energy, health and the primary sector. Energy has already been the subject of an assessment and a workshop, held in June, while work on health and the primary sector was scheduled for the following months.
