Key Points

  • Government awards €33,500 to architect Jorge Vitullo for MRI technical project and oversight.
  • Council of Ministers approved contract proposed by Minister Raül Ferré.
  • MRI will reduce external referrals, waiting times, duplicate tests, and patient travel.
  • Part of €2.4M credit for hospital modernization and diagnostic upgrades.

The Andorran government has awarded a contract worth €33,500 to architect Jorge Vitullo to prepare the technical project and oversee construction work adapting space at Hospital Nostra Senyora de Meritxell for a new state-of-the-art MRI scanner.

The Council of Ministers approved the decision on Wednesday, following a proposal from Minister of Territory and Urbanism Raül Ferré. This step precedes the tendering and execution of the necessary modifications to install the advanced diagnostic equipment.

Once operational, the MRI will enable high-precision scans within Andorra's public health system. Officials expect it to cut external referrals, shorten waiting times for diagnoses, prevent duplicate tests and reduce patient travel.

The initiative forms part of a special €2.4 million credit approved by the General Council last May. That funding covers both site adaptations and the scanner's installation, contributing to broader efforts to modernise the hospital and strengthen its diagnostic capabilities.
