Health authorities in Andorra report that a mild gastroenteritis outbreak at the Cedre sociosanitary centre in Santa Coloma remains fully contained, with no hospital admissions among the roughly 20 affected residents and most now recovered.

The episode, which surfaced over the weekend at the SAAS-managed facility for elderly or disabled individuals requiring ongoing care, prompted immediate activation of standard protocols. Government sources confirm all cases presented mild symptoms, with the majority of those affected having overcome them. The remainder continue under medical supervision, showing no complications.

From the first cases identified on one floor of the five-storey centre, health services notified families right away and began tracking developments. Ministry of Health officials, alongside SAAS staff, maintain ongoing surveillance of residents. No severe cases or fevers emerged, and simple interventions like hydration, rest, and dietary changes supported recovery.

While investigations into the source continue, authorities have yet to pinpoint a specific cause or link it to any particular food. Recent warm weather could have aided bacterial proliferation in items such as undercooked eggs, mayonnaise, cream products, or raw fish, though this remains unconfirmed pending lab results.

The Ministry of Health has issued no new alerts. This incident echoes a June outbreak at Escaldes' Sagrada Família school, which affected hundreds of pupils and staff. Surveillance at Cedre persists as analyses advance.
