Nearly 100 professionals from Andorran institutions participated in a morning training session on gender-based violence, led by forensic doctor and expert Miguel Lorente.
The workshop, organised by the Secretariat of State for Equality and Citizen Participation, included representatives from the Andorran Health Care Service (SAAS), Social Affairs, the Batllia, the Bar Association, the Andorran Women's Institute (IAD), and the police corps. Participants explored the specific traits of gender violence, detection methods for risk situations, and appropriate responses across intervention areas.
The session aimed to provide tools for early identification, effective action, and stronger coordination among victim support organisations.
Secretariat head Mariona Cadena highlighted Andorra's advances, linked to a dedicated regulatory framework and growing specialised resources. She emphasised the Gender Violence Victim Support Service's comprehensive care in social, socio-educational, psychological, and legal areas.
Lorente, a doctor in medicine specialising in surgery and a forensic physician since 1988, holds a full professorship in Legal Medicine at the University of Granada and a master's in Bioethics and Medical Law. His past roles include director of the Granada Legal Medicine Institute, coordinator of Andalusia's legal medicine institutes, and director general of Legal Assistance to Victims of Violence at the Andalusian Justice Department from 2006 to 2008.
The day continues with Lorente's public lecture, "Masculinity, Culture and Violence," at 6:30pm in the Hotel Yomo Cèntric, Andorra la Vella. It will reflect on androcentric culture's impact on gender roles, expectations, and male-female relationships.
