Sant Julià de Lòria Advances Elderly Housing Project on Track for 2028

Parish leaders confirm wooden frames are being installed on schedule in the key senior care initiative. Complementary programs like Radars and Aptitud enhance community support, amid successful Week of the Elderly events.

Key Points

  • Structural work on new elderly housing completes by end of 2026, units ready in first half of 2028.
  • Parish launching Radars program with local shops to detect senior isolation and hardship.
  • Aptitud programme monitors cognitive health to address age-related decline.
  • Week of the Elderly events drew over 200 participants with cultural and social activities.

Sant Julià de Lòria officials report steady progress on new elderly housing, with structural work due by year-end and units operational in the first half of 2028.

The project has advanced into a new phase featuring wooden building frames, according to parish leaders. Cerni Cairat, the leading consul, described it as one of the parish's most important elderly care efforts. Work is on track, he said, with crews focused on installing the frames and completing all structural elements before 2026 ends. "The project is progressing at a good pace," Cairat stated, confirming no changes to the timeline.

Support for seniors extends beyond construction. Social services track everyone over 60, and the parish will soon launch Radars, engaging local shops to identify isolation or hardship. This aims to build community networks rather than rely solely on public bodies. The Aptitud programme also monitors cognitive health to slow age-related issues.

These efforts align with the Week of the Elderly, a joint initiative by the parish council and Sant Julià Elderly Association. It has seen more than 200 participants through Thursday, including cultural, sports, and leisure events. On International Day of Older Persons, activities featured a mass, communal lunch, raffle, and dancing. Wednesday honoured 33 residents over 80 with breakfast and gifts. The week closes Thursday evening with a public theatre show at the Cultural Centre.

Paqui Barbero, association president, praised the high turnout and special celebrations. Cairat called the response "very positive," stressing year-round vigilance against elderly loneliness—a major societal challenge.
