Police in Andorra arrested five drivers this week on suspicion of public safety offences for driving under the influence of alcohol, with blood alcohol levels ranging from 0.95 to 2.13 g/l. The group included four men and one woman aged 23 to 55.
The most severe case involved a woman who recorded 2.13 g/l—nearly three times the legal limit—after crashing into a pedestrian protection barrier on the CG-5 in Arinsal in the early hours of Wednesday, stemming from a Tuesday night incident. She had a partial driving ban from the Batllia restricting her to certain hours and was on the road outside those times. Officers charged her with a public safety offence and an additional violation against the administration of justice.
A man tested at 1.94 g/l following a property-damage crash on the CG-2 near Soldeu. Another driver, with 1.86 g/l, possessed 0.9 grams of cocaine and 2.3 grams of hashish; his refusal of a drug test led to a second public safety charge. The remaining two alcohol cases arose during routine traffic stops.
In related incidents, officers arrested a 39-year-old man found with 0.5 grams of cocaine after he refused alcohol and drug tests. He was also driving with an expired licence and vehicle inspection, resulting in charges for drug possession and a public safety offence.
Two other men faced arrest for driving on suspended licences. A 30-year-old was identified by an off-duty officer aware of his Batllia ban, leading to an administration of justice charge. A 52-year-old tested positive for drugs after a property-damage collision with another vehicle at the Prada Casadet roundabout and was charged with offences against public safety and public function.
At border controls, police detained two tourists for drug possession: a 23-year-old at the French-Andorran frontier with 0.3 grams of cocaine and 0.55 grams of hashish, and a 28-year-old at the Riu Runer crossing with 0.65 grams of cocaine. Both faced public health violation charges.
Separately, on Thursday night in Andorra la Vella, authorities arrested a 42-year-old non-resident tourist for assaulting his brother at the brother's home, where he had been staying, on charges of offences against physical and moral integrity.
