Police in Andorra have arrested a fourth member of an organised gang linked to multiple storage unit burglaries in the central valley last year.

The 41-year-old non-resident, believed to be a Romanian national based in Spain, was detained early Tuesday morning in Escaldes-Engordany. Immigration officials identified him during his application for a short-term work permit, triggering alarms in police databases. He had been fully known to authorities since November, when three accomplices were arrested, and a judicial warrant for his detention was already active. Judicial sources noted that police worked with immigration to conduct surveillance before moving in.

The suspect has entered the penitentiary centre to serve a relatively short fixed sentence, followed by expulsion. Authorities suspect his permit application may have aimed to prepare or carry out further thefts, despite his awareness—or overconfidence—while on their radar.

The group targeted storage facilities operated by a major rental company, primarily at Carrer de les Boïgues in Escaldes-Engordany—near immigration and police offices—and Carrer Verge del Pilar in Andorra la Vella. At least two of the earlier arrests took place close to these sites. Operating from August onward, members rented units online to obtain access codes, then broke into others, stole valuables, and resealed padlocks to delay detection.

Reported damages stand at around €90,000, with police indicating possible additional unreported cases. All four suspects have prior convictions for similar offences across Europe.
