Encamp Parish Council Launches €1.4M Renovation of Plaça de l'Església del Pas de la Casa

Encamp parish council will begin a €1.4 million comprehensive renovation of Plaça de l'Església del Pas de la Casa on Monday, May 4, with works scheduled to continue until October 2027.

The initiative seeks to revitalize the iconic square and strengthen its bond with the adjacent church as a symbolic and social hub for the community. Council officials have emphasized that the project will cause only minimal disruptions to mobility for residents and visitors, with no permanent road closures planned.

Key improvements include modernizing basic public services and installing low-consumption lighting systems designed to protect the night sky and landscape values. New urban furniture will be added in harmony with the surroundings, while refreshed paving will create a visually cohesive space. Architectural barriers will be removed to ensure universal accessibility, and existing planters—plagued by water leaks—will be replaced with sustainable, integrated alternatives.

Standout features are a snowflake-shaped fountain at one of the main entrances, proposed by the children's council to foster a sense of belonging, and a new covered bus shelter accommodating up to 30 people. This transport upgrade aims to enhance user experience, optimize traffic flow, and improve pedestrian management.

The church itself will undergo facade restoration to preserve its original stonework and stained-glass windows, along with a new energy-efficient roof. All interventions prioritize energy efficiency and sustainability to reduce environmental impact and improve interior comfort.

The resulting space will offer a secure, functional environment suitable for all ages, supporting better overall area management.
