Small Fire in Changing Room Delays Gasopas Petrol Station Opening in Pas de la Casa

A small fire in the changing room at Gasopas petrol station in Pas de la Casa produced heavy black smoke early this morning, prompting a swift response from firefighters and delaying the site's opening by around two hours.

The incident unfolded shortly after 6am when a worker arriving for his shift—about 20 minutes before the usual 7am opening—spotted dense fumes emerging from the changing area. He promptly contacted the fire service and police. Crews from Pas de la Casa and Canillo arrived quickly after an initial alert about thick black smoke near the changing rooms. They advised securing the door remotely before assessing the scene on site.

The fire chief on duty identified the cause as a small wall-mounted electric heater that had overheated overnight, melted, fallen to the floor, and sparked a slow smouldering process. No flames developed, but the combustion generated significant fumes. Firefighters isolated the area, ventilated it, and extinguished the device without needing to activate any special safety protocols for the station's fuel systems, as the fire remained highly localised.

The station stayed closed until roughly 8:45-9am, when operations resumed fully. The changing room suffered notable smoke damage but no structural issues. No injuries occurred, and fire service officials described the event as a minor incident, though the worker's initial alarm was understandable given the heavy smoke.
