Pas de la Casa Bans Heavy Trucks After 50cm Snowfall

Encamp commune restricts heavy vehicles in Pas de la Casa until midday due to heavy snow blocking lanes and parking. Deliveries delayed, but public transport runs; France border reopens amid ongoing alerts.

Key Points

  • Over 50cm snow prompts Encamp to restrict heavy goods vehicles from urban core until midday.
  • Cleaning crews clear streets at dawn; deliveries resume after second lane reopens.
  • RN20 to France reopened at 10:24am; RN22/RN320 border closed; black/yellow road alerts active.
  • Bus delays on L3/L4 stranded passengers up to 2 hours; special delivery window Friday 10am-noon.

Heavy overnight snowfall has dumped more than 50 centimetres of snow on Pas de la Casa, prompting the Encamp commune to restrict heavy goods vehicles from the urban core until midday. Cleaning crews began work at dawn to clear streets, but thick accumulations continue to prevent the opening of two traffic lanes, loading zones, and some outdoor parking areas.

The restrictions directly impact goods deliveries, which cannot resume until much of the snow is removed and a second lane reopens. Officials expect normal circulation and logistics to return by early afternoon. Public transport on the national line remains operational and unaffected.

With public holidays approaching, the commune has scheduled an exceptional delivery window on Friday, April 3, from 10am to noon, to ensure supplies reach local businesses.

Access to France via the RN20 reopened around 10.24am after a 15-hour closure due to poor weather conditions on the French-managed road. The border at RN22 and RN320 near Coll de Pormorent remains closed. Broader road alerts persist, with black-phase restrictions on CG2 at Port d'Envalira and CG3 to Arcalís; yellow-phase measures apply to CG2 in Canillo, CG3 in Llorts, and CG4 in Pal.

The storm has also caused delays on public bus lines L3 and L4. Wednesday afternoon saw packed vehicles from the national station, leaving passengers stranded at stops like Els Marginets and Maria Pla—some waiting up to two hours amid tense moments. Drivers reported peak issues after 6.30pm, as workers headed home and northern visitors returned to lodgings, compounded by snow chains and slow roads at higher elevations. Morning delays on Thursday were less severe.

Weather forecasts predict scattered cloud breaks in central and southern Andorra today, with light snow possible in the north and windy conditions. Stability arrives tomorrow with an anticyclone bringing milder spring-like weather.

Authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary trips, assist cleaning teams, and follow traffic agents' instructions for safety. The commune thanked citizens for their cooperation during recovery efforts.
