Andorran Final of 12th World Robot Olympiad Kicks Off Saturday with 15 Youth Teams

The Andorran final of the 12th World Robot Olympiad (WRO) will take place this Saturday at the Aixovall vocational training centre auditorium, bringing together 15 teams of children and youths aged 8 to 15.

Sponsored by Andorra Telecom, the international robotics event promotes hands-on education in technology, programming, and engineering. Competitors design, build, and program robots to complete missions inspired by this year's theme, 'Ancient Civilisations'. The challenges highlight the legacies of historic cultures and the need to protect cultural and historical heritage.

In the Start category, robots gather objects representing the past and deliver them to a museum to preserve ancient knowledge and traditions. Elementary teams organise a large music festival, with robots handling instruments, musical notes, microphones, and stage setup. Junior teams operate in a historic fortress, where robots guide visitors, clear pathways, and aid preservation efforts.

These tasks build skills in problem-solving, computational thinking, creativity, teamwork, and technological innovation. Participants can assemble robots from any robotics platform, including those with 3D-printed parts or custom designs.

The competition opens to the public at 9am, with multiple rounds determining category rankings based on points.

Andorra Telecom supports Andorran involvement to encourage scientific and technological interests among young people. The initiative aligns with the company's broader STEAM projects—spanning science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics—to equip future generations for a digital world.
