Andorra Fire Service Declines Deployment to French Wildfires Over Resource Limits

Andorra's fire service has decided against deploying personnel to combat wildfires in France, citing limited resources that would likely create logistical challenges rather than meaningful support.

Jordi Farré, director of the Andorran fire corps, noted that the principality could dispatch only a single unit of four or five firefighters. Such a team would need to integrate into French operations, facing differences in communication systems and supply chains where Andorran crews lack self-sufficiency.

"With the capacity we have, we might generate more problems than solutions for them," Farré said, using wildfires near Bordeaux as an example. He highlighted that these deployments would complicate matters due to mismatched working conditions and provisioning needs.

Instead, the service focuses on more effective regional cooperation. Recent efforts include fully extinguishing a mountainside fire in Ariège and providing two days of assistance for a blaze in Vall Ferrera. Andorran teams have also covered sectors for Urgell firefighters, such as during incidents in Tàrrega, maintaining service continuity from Andorran bases.

Farré stressed that these methods deliver "far more efficient" aid to French authorities and the Catalan Generalitat through practical, low-profile collaboration.
