A power outage that disrupted Pas de la Casa's lower village and Grandvalira's Pas and Grau Roig ski sectors on New Year's Day has been resolved after nearly three hours.
The fault struck around 9:45am, initially hitting areas near Sant Pere church and Carrer Sant Jordi. It quickly spread, knocking out electricity across much of the lower village and halting operations at the Pas ski area. The issue also reached FEDA-supplied facilities in Grau Roig through interconnected systems, suspending most lifts and runs there, with some skiers evacuated using backup generators. Grandvalira reported near-total shutdowns in those sectors, though other parts of the domain operated normally. Low morning crowds on the slopes limited the scale of disruptions.
Sercensa, which supplies the village, and FEDA coordinated repair efforts, but no cause or timeline emerged during the outage. Hotels, restaurants, and other businesses open for the holiday faced significant interruptions amid high winter demand in the border parish.
Power was restored around noon, with full normalization at the ski areas by about 12:45pm. Technicians from both companies had worked continuously since the start, finally addressing the problem after almost three hours without service.
