A 46-year-old woman injured during Thursday's fierce winds from storm "Nils" has died in hospital. Part of an industrial warehouse roof collapsed onto her in Barcelona, and she had been receiving treatment at Hospital Vall d'Hebron.
Her death marks the first fatality from the storm in Catalonia, where eight people remain hospitalised, including one in critical condition. The critically injured patient is a 22-year-old Civil Protection volunteer struck by a falling tree in Sant Boi de Llobregat. He is stable at Hospital de Bellvitge, following an incident that also left three others hurt—two of whom have since been discharged.
Additional patients include a 68-year-old man in serious condition at Vall d'Hebron, a 56-year-old worker seriously hurt and admitted to Hospital Trueta in Girona, and two others with less severe injuries at Hospital d'Olot.
Gusts exceeded 100 km/h across much of the region, prompting Catalonia's firefighters to handle more than 3,400 call-outs. Although the Generalitat has lifted mobility restrictions imposed during the peak of the storm, it continues to urge caution amid ongoing disruptions to infrastructure, public transport, and electricity supplies.
