Concòrdia Questions Andorra Government on Promised Carer Benefit Ahead of Term End

Concòrdia, an opposition group in Andorra's General Council, has formally questioned the government on the status of a promised financial benefit for non-professional carers of dependent persons, demanding to know if it will take effect before the current legislative term ends.

General Councillor Maria Àngels Aché submitted a set of parliamentary questions yesterday, seeking details on the proposal's progress. She asked whether a technical report exists, if a specific programme has been drafted, and if the measure's economic impact has been assessed. The inquiries highlight the absence of any formal decisions, timelines, or updates from the executive.

This marks the latest push by Concòrdia on the issue. During last year's Political Orientation Debate, the General Council approved a resolution backed by the group, directing the government to develop a comprehensive support plan for non-professional carers and to include funding for the benefit in the 2026 budget. At the start of the legislature, Social Affairs Minister Trini Marín described the measure as a priority, pledging a study to enable its rollout.

Concòrdia points to ongoing executive inaction despite these commitments. The benefit would aid families who reduce or abandon paid work to care for relatives, addressing the economic and social burdens they face. The group argues this dedication merits formal recognition and compensation.

The government has not yet responded to Aché's questions.
