Andorra la Vella Cònsol Confident Dialogue Will Resolve Plaça Vinyes Leaks

Sergi González, cònsol major of Andorra la Vella, remains confident that dialogue among all involved parties could resolve the leaks at Plaça Vinyes once ongoing waterproofing tests conclude, highlighting a "good disposition" from the parking owner, comú, and insurers despite the Batllia proceedings.

González shared these views on Wednesday during a public rice-sharing event at the Festa del Poble, where the comú served 1,000 portions under intense heat, with an indoor air-conditioned space at the Congress Centre offered as relief. He emphasized that the construction firm and direcció facultativa are conducting thorough checks to identify the leaks' exact origin and extent, with the oversight team providing close monitoring. "First we must solve the problem, where we've focused all our efforts, and once done, I believe dialogue can find a solution," he told reporters.

The dispute stems from leaks first reported exactly one year ago, on the morning of 23 June, which Vinyes Patrimonial—the parking lot's owner and operator—attributes to deficient insulation during the Plaça del Poble renovation works. After the comú's governing board rejected the firm's administrative claim seeking accountability and compensation for material damage, Vinyes Patrimonial exhausted appeals and filed suit. Last week, the Batllia admitted the claim against the comú and its insurer for publication in the BOPA, advancing the case judicially.

González noted insurance involvement and constructive attitudes across the board, including a willingness to pursue talks and potentially avoid a lengthy trial. The comú will follow required legal steps if needed but prioritizes technical resolution. Meanwhile, the renovated Plaça del Poble continues hosting events unaffected, including the Festa del Poble festivities that began Tuesday evening with the Canigó flame collection at Casa de la Vall. González praised the event's community spirit, drawing families, youth, and associations.
