Pere Baró Submits PS's Sole Candidacy for 2027 Elections Primaries

Pere Baró has submitted the only candidacy in the Partit Socialdemòcrata (PS) primaries for next year's general elections, though he has not confirmed he will lead the party's list.

The PS closed the submission deadline yesterday with a single candidacy filed on time, according to party deputy president and General Councillor Pere Baró. Speaking to media, Baró declined to verify reports from recent days naming him as the likely candidate to head the social democratic project. "I have not confirmed this information to anyone," he said, adding that the party would make no further announcements at this stage.

Baró stressed only that one valid candidacy had been received. The candidate now has until next Monday to collect at least 25 signatures from party militants to formalise the bid. Aspirants must also meet PS requirements, including active membership.

The primaries follow the party's announcement last week of the process to select candidates for the lists ahead of the 2027 general elections. If the signature threshold is met, the candidacy will be proclaimed.

Baró's statements came amid speculation in local media about his potential run for head of government. The PS has not disclosed the candidate's identity beyond confirming the single submission.
