Trini Marín, Andorra's Minister for Social Affairs, highlighted the principality's strengthened home care services during ministerial conferences in Avilés, Asturias, this week. She presented Andorra's experiences as a potential model for Ibero-America, focusing on training and specialisation for family care workers.

Marín took part in the VI Ibero-American Ministerial Conference on Labour and the IV Ibero-American Ministerial Conference on Social Affairs and Inclusive Development. These events served as preparatory meetings ahead of the XXX Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for November in Madrid.

In sessions, she outlined Andorra's efforts to bolster care and support systems. The government has prioritised closer, more inclusive services tailored to needs arising from population ageing, disability, and dependency. Key initiatives include the progressive expansion of the Home Care Service and enhanced training for family care workers, aimed at raising service quality and recognising the profession's vital role in social cohesion.

On the labour front, Marín stressed the need for professionalisation, ongoing training, and greater societal recognition of care sector jobs. She also advocated for digital transformation and artificial intelligence to improve service organisation and efficiency, provided human oversight remains in place and the rights of workers and users are protected.

The conferences concluded with the adoption of the Avilés Declarations, outlining commitments to strengthen care systems, promote social inclusion, advance sector professionalisation, ensure equal opportunities, and encourage responsible AI use. Participants also approved the Ibero-American Charter on Care and Support as a framework for comprehensive policy development.

Andorra's involvement underscores its dedication to Ibero-American cooperation and people-centred public policies that foster cohesive, resilient, and sustainable societies.
