Escaldes-Engordany Mayor Pledges Heightened Security for Festa Major After Encamp Fights

Rosa Gili, the major consellera of Escaldes-Engordany, has promised heightened vigilance for the parish's Festa Major, which begins on Wednesday, following recent incidents during Encamp's celebrations.

Gili highlighted the need to maintain maximum alertness despite police actions that have helped reduce tensions. She described the events in Encamp as "lamentable" and stressed preserving the convivial atmosphere typical of Andorra's popular festivals. "We want family-oriented events for everyone, without ever losing that sense—and reality—of security this country has always had," she said.

While acknowledging that fights have occurred to some extent at past celebrations, Gili noted that recent ones may have gained outsized attention. The local council plans to keep the Traffic Service on high alert and expects police to deploy sufficient resources. The Unió Pro-Turisme Escaldes-Engordany will provide extensive on-the-ground support through numerous volunteers.

Gili expressed confidence in these measures to ensure smooth proceedings and protect Andorra's reputation for safety. On separate tensions with the national government over rental contracts, she reported no progress but reiterated a commitment to resolving issues through dialogue rather than public statements. "Things get fixed by talking, not with headlines or big reveals in places where we can't engage," she added.
