Social Democrat Leader Questions Andorra's Teacher Training Restrictions Under Spain Pact

Susanna Vela, leader of the Social Democrat parliamentary group, has submitted a series of written questions to the Andorran government challenging the application of the 2005 educational agreement with Spain, particularly restrictions on teacher training.

Vela's inquiries centre on the government's interpretation of the convention's clauses covering educator training and professional development. She asks whether it is consistent with the agreement's terms and objectives to confine specific training initiatives—carried out through educational cooperation—to staff solely at the Spanish College María Moliner.

The Social Democrat leader raises concerns that this policy may have barred teachers from other Andorran institutions, including those delivering Catalan-language instruction. Among her questions, Vela probes whether the Ministry of Education received directives enforcing such restrictions and, if confirmed, what measures followed. She also seeks confirmation on whether the Technical Education Commission, tasked with monitoring the agreement, has been informed.

Vela further requests an evaluation of a formal request lodged on 24 July 2026 with the Secretary of State for Education on this issue, including any government actions taken or anticipated.

The queries underscore broader questions over fair access to joint training programmes for Andorra's educators. No official response has emerged from the government.
