Social Democrat Leader Questions Andorra's Teacher Training Restrictions Under Spain Pact

Susanna Vela, leader of the Social Democrat parliamentary group, has formally questioned the Andorran government's handling of the 2005 education agreement with Spain, with a focus on limits placed on teacher training opportunities.

In written questions directed to the government, Vela challenges whether it aligns with the pact's provisions and goals to restrict certain training activities—offered via educational cooperation—to teachers only at the Spanish College María Moliner. She highlights the risk that this approach has excluded educators from other Andorran schools, particularly those teaching in Catalan.

Vela seeks clarification on whether the Ministry of Education was aware of any instructions imposing these limits and what steps, if any, officials have taken in response. Her submission also presses for details on a complaint filed on 24 July 2026 with the Secretary of State for Education, including subsequent government measures or plans. She further asks if the Technical Education Commission, which oversees the agreement, has received notification of the issue.

The questions spotlight ongoing debates about equitable access to collaborative professional development for Andorra's teaching staff. The government has yet to issue a reply.
