Police investigators have located the Toyota RAV4 they believe the detained 34-year-old man was driving around the time his 51-year-old partner was fatally stabbed, and which may have been the scene of the attack.

The vehicle has been taken to police facilities for analysis. Officials have not disclosed where it was found, its condition, or whether the knife used in the killing was inside it.

The man is suspected of killing his partner, whose body was found on the Carretera de la Comella on Wednesday afternoon. He handed himself in at the central police station that afternoon and told officers he had stabbed her.

According to the account reported by Altaveu, the sequence of events was as follows: after stabbing the woman, the man called the police without identifying himself but using his own mobile phone, then left for La Seu d'Urgell to deliver cats to a relative. The animals had been collected beforehand from his home in the Ciutat de Valls area. The same relative persuaded him to hand himself in; he returned to Andorra and gave himself up, and went on to guide emergency services to the spot where the woman's body lay.

The Toyota was also being sought by the Mossos d'Esquadra and La Seu local police in the Alt Urgell area. Until now neither the vehicle nor the murder weapon had been accounted for.

The search had begun around midday on Wednesday after the force received a call from the man's mobile phone reporting that a woman with a bleeding wound had been seen. A search operation was launched to locate both the man and his partner, involving public safety units, the technical intervention unit and the airborne section, with firefighters and forestry rangers also taking part amid the possibility that the victim had fallen down an embankment.

The body was located on the Carretera de la Comella, which was closed while emergency services, officers and the judicial delegation carried out their work.

The Judicial Police and Criminal Investigation Area is collecting and analysing evidence to establish the circumstances of the events, and the case is now before the courts. No further details about the causes or circumstances of the death have been released.
