Andorran Slalom Skier Carla Mijares Gets New Coach Pol Carreras for World Cup Season

Andorran slalom skier Carla Mijares will compete in the World Cup next season under new coach Pol Carreras, who replaces Josh Alayrach after his move to Joan Verdú's elite training group.

Carreras, until recently head of the Federación Andorrana d'Esports d'Hivern (FAE) Esquí Estudi Batxillerat Esportiu (EEBE) U16 group, steps into the role as Mijares aims to establish herself on the top international circuit. He worked closely with Mijares and Alayrach last season, accompanying the team to several World Cup events.

The change introduces updates to Mijares's support structure: she will share a skiman with Latvian skier Dženifera Ģērmane, a regular on the circuit with seven top-10 finishes in slalom so far.

Carreras described the position as a fresh challenge and source of motivation. He called it "a very strong project" due to the circuit's demands and Mijares's qualities as a serious, professional athlete with significant potential. He praised Alayrach's prior contributions, pointing to Mijares's 18th-place finish at Semmering, Austria—one of her best World Cup results—as a key milestone. "Now we must build on that and continue the work they have done over recent years," Carreras said.

Esports Andorra la Vella announced the appointment on 12 May 2026. Mijares races under the FAE.
