Hungary Thrash Andorra 6-1 in Women's World Cup Qualifier, Ending Campaign

Andorra's women's national football team lost 6-1 to Hungary in Budapest on Tuesday, ending their World Cup qualifying campaign fourth in Group C3 with one point from an earlier home draw against the leaders.

At the Illovszky Rudolf Stadion, Hungary took control early when Viktória Nagy scored in the third minute. Andorra held firm until a defensive lapse allowed Zsanett Kaján, who plays for Italian club Parma, to make it 2-0 in the 39th minute with a low shot past Joana Babot. Vanessza Nagy added a third two minutes later, firing into the right post.

After the break, Maria Da Cruz pulled one back for Andorra in the 55th minute, heading in from a corner to make it 3-1. Evelin Fenyvesi of Ferencváros responded swiftly in the 57th minute, restoring the three-goal margin. She struck again in the 69th minute for 5-1 before Sára Pusztai completed the scoring in the 89th.

Coach Albert Panadero made changes including Gemma Lluch, Emma Duró, Lia Gil, and Joana Babot, with Alex Cardoso entering in goal in the 72nd minute for her final national team appearance. Cardoso had been farewelled days earlier against North Macedonia. Andorra earned yellow cards for Izquierdo, Morató, Duró, and Rosas; Hungary's Fenyvesi and Vincze were booked. Turkish referee Melek Dakan officiated.

The result followed a close home defeat to North Macedonia. Hungary, coached by Alexandra Szarvas, had already clinched top spot with a 2-1 win in Azerbaijan, thanks to a late Viktória Nagy goal. Andorra were the only side to take points off them, via the 0-0 opener at Estadi Nacional.

Panadero had called the fixture a chance to grow against the group's strongest opponent, stressing defensive work, resilience, and compactness. The squad featured debutant 16-year-old forward Anna Bos, plus Noa Tesorero and Zoe Planagumà, replacing Clàudia Plaja, Èlia Quílez, and Olga Sabio.

Despite the scoreline, Andorra showed fight throughout a campaign of improved competitiveness.
