Monaco 2027 Games Rescheduled to May 17-22, Golf Added and Basketball Removed

The Monaco 2027 Games of the Small States of Europe will take place from May 17 to 22, rather than the original May 3 to 8 dates, after a decision at a recent assembly in Monaco.

Andorra's Olympic Committee (COA) confirmed the change, which requires national federations and delegations to revise training schedules, preparation, and logistics. The Andorran group—COA president Xavier Espot Miró, technical committee president Jaume Tomàs, and deputy general secretary Clàudia Espot—joined representatives from other nations and held a meeting with Prince Albert II. The gathering addressed organisational, logistical, and competitive elements, including early preparations for upcoming editions in Luxembourg and Cyprus.

Key updates to the sports programme include adding golf, with participants required to meet set qualifying standards, and removing basketball. Espot Miró stressed Andorra's readiness to offer insights from its own recent Games hosting. He framed the delegation's role as "a show of solidarity from the Andorran Olympic Committee towards the Monégasque Olympic Committee," adding that while the disciplines were mostly fixed from Andorran-led talks, issues persist. "There are always hurdles, and we will contribute experience, knowledge, and assistance," he noted.

Tomàs highlighted the need for tweaks in certain events. "Some disciplines lack the minimum number of entries, or have too many. These are details to fine-tune," he said.

The Andorran Golf Federation (FGA) expressed strong approval of golf's addition. President Gabriel Guerrero described it as "a step forward to complement Games packed with diverse disciplines," noting it would help the sport "connect with a broader audience, which it lacked before." He pointed to recent bronze and silver medals at the 2024 and 2025 European Shield events as strong groundwork, creating "an opportunity for the FGA to promote Andorran golf beyond our borders, inspire our development squad, and nurture talent through our programmes." The federation plans to review the qualifying criteria closely to gauge potential involvement.

Further discussions on organisational, logistical, and sporting details are set for the European Olympic Committees' general assembly on June 12 and 13.
