Liechtenstein's withdrawal from the Davis Cup has improved Andorra's promotion chances in the Group III tournament in Armenia from June 16 to 20, with captain Jean-Baptiste Poux expressing optimism about the revamped format.
The event will feature six teams—Andorra, Armenia, Albania, Iceland, Malta, and San Marino—in a round-robin setup, with the top two earning promotion. Poux described the change as advantageous. "Before there were eight or nine teams and two would go up. Now there are six and still two spots. It's positive for us," he said.
Poux is relying on a young squad comprising Èric Cervós, Guillem Davasse, Pablo Carrascosa, and Iu Blasi. "We're fielding a very competitive team. Since I became captain, we've always bet on the youngsters," he noted, adding that the players are physically strong.
Looking back at last year's performance, where Andorra missed promotion by a single set, Poux reflected on the setback. "It was hard to deal with because we got so excited and put in a huge effort. We've learned from it and are going all out this time. We need to stay positive."
