Pol Carreras, an Andorran ski coach previously leading the U16 group at Esquí Estudi Batxillerat Esportiu (EEBE) under the Andorran Ski Federation, has been appointed as the new full-time trainer for slalom skier Carla Mijares on the World Cup circuit.
He replaces Josh Alayrach, who has joined Joan Verdú's elite team. Carreras already supported Mijares' group last season, traveling with the team to various World Cup races. Now, he will direct her efforts as she seeks to solidify her place among the circuit's leading slalom competitors.
Mijares' setup for the coming season includes sharing a skiman with Latvia's Dženifera Ģērmane, a consistent World Cup participant with seven top-10 slalom results to date.
Carreras views the position as "a motivation and a new challenge," entering what he calls "a very strong project" given the circuit's intensity and Mijares' abilities. "It's a personal and professional challenge because it's a highly competitive circuit and Carla is a serious, professional young athlete with huge potential," he said. He credited Alayrach's key role in her recent development, pointing to her 18th-place finish at Semmering, Austria—one of her strongest World Cup showings. "The work done with Josh over these years has been very good... Now we must build on that position and ensure continuity in what they have achieved," Carreras added.
