Andorra's Les Grandalles Routed 31-0 and 45-0 in Women's Rugby Sevens Trophy Opener

Andorra's women's rugby sevens team, Les Grandalles, suffered heavy defeats in their opening matches of the Trophy Series at the Rugby Europe Women's 7s Championship in Makarska, Croatia. The side lost 31-0 to Ukraine at 10:52am on Saturday and 45-0 to Hungary at 5pm the same day, highlighting the step up in competition from last year's Conference 1 title win in Ordino.

Coached by Titi Bosque, the 13-player squad—which blends experience with five debutants Lea Bonell, Noa Díaz, Daniela Ferreira, Lua García and Èlia Taulats—now faces Austria at 10:30am today to close out Group C play before knockout rounds. Díaz and García, both 17, underscore the federation's youth investment.

The defeats exposed gaps in physicality, pace and experience against top Group C opponents, leaving Les Grandalles without realistic chances of victory in the openers. Forward Carla Micas had noted the rookies' preparedness beforehand, describing them as complete athletes unafraid of stronger rivals after a year of shared training. "They will have opportunities to test their limits. Our aim is to stay in this division. We'll give everything," she said.

Teammate Zoe Sánchez similarly stressed belonging in the category. "It will be tough, but the plan is to stay at 100%," she added.

The two-stage event continues in Chișinău, Moldova, with the top two Trophy teams earning promotion to the elite Championship Series. While ascent remains a stretch, survival in the division stands as the core target amid formidable opposition.
