Andorra Approves Temporary Motorhome Camping in Ordino for Trail 100 UTMB

The Andorran government has approved a temporary exemption in Ordino allowing overnight stays and camping for motorhomes, caravans, campers, and similar vehicles during the Trail 100 Andorra by UTMB event.

The measure, outlined in a decree published in the Official Bulletin of the Principality (BOPA) on Wednesday, suspends the usual prohibition under the general law on tourist accommodation. It takes effect from Wednesday and runs until Monday, June 15, coinciding with the influx of runners, teams, companions, and visitors for the trail race scheduled from June 12 to 14.

The event, with nearly 3,800 participants expected from around the world, will have a particular impact in the Ordino parish. Organizers invoked an exception in article 16 of the tourist accommodation law, which permits such suspensions for major events.

The local council in Ordino must designate and signpost the permitted areas. It is also responsible for ensuring proper welcome conditions, including safety, coexistence, hygiene, and operations, to prevent disorganized parking and channel stays into controlled zones.

The decision comes just two weeks after police began fining motorhomes for overnighting or camping outside designated spaces. Local motorhome groups have voiced criticism over the strict rules and limited available spots in recent weeks, while Ordino authorities have expressed plans to develop new regulated parking areas.

On Tuesday, Ordino's senior councillor, Maria del Mar Coma, emphasized during the event presentation that the parish's tourism model prioritizes sustainability and ties to the local area, with races like the Trail 100 enabling participants to experience its heritage.
