Andorra's Les Grandalles Relegated from Women's 7s Trophy After 10th in Chisinau

Andorra's women's rugby sevens team, Les Grandalles, were relegated to Conference level after finishing 10th at the second stage of the Women's 7s Trophy Series in Chisinau, Moldova.

Coached by Patrick Bosque—also referred to as Titi Bosque—the squad needed to avoid one of the two bottom spots in the overall standings across the two stages to stay in Trophy. They had earned promotion to the division last June following the European championships, but secured their drop by the end of June after the Chisinau event.

The tournament started badly on Friday with heavy losses to Italy (61-0) and a physical Norway side (31-7). Saturday showed improvement: a hard-fought 17-17 draw with Switzerland, sealed by Miren Barciela's long run in the final play when trailing 17-5, and a 17-12 win over direct rival Montenegro.

In Sunday's ninth-place playoff against Switzerland, Les Grandalles lost 15-7, confirming their fate. Andorra and Montenegro tied on five points overall, but Rugby Europe's tiebreaker—total points difference across both stages—favoured Montenegro at -172 compared to Andorra's -207. In the first stage in Makarska, Croatia, Andorra had finished 11th and Montenegro 10th; the Chisinau reversal was not enough.

This antepenultimate finish repeated a near-bottom result from their Trophy debut in Makarska. No details have emerged on the team's plans moving forward.
