Guillem Colom, MoraBanc Andorra Ex-Captain, Retires at 34 After 20-Year Career

Guillem Colom, former captain of MoraBanc Andorra, has retired from professional basketball at 34, ending a career spanning nearly two decades in top-level play.

The Andorran guard made the announcement in a social media video, one year after his brother Quino Colom also stepped away from the sport. Born into a basketball family—his father Joaquim played for the club in the 1980s—Guillem rose through MoraBanc's youth system. He returned after time in Zaragoza during his studies, playing 136 games for the club: 95 in Spain's ACB league and 41 in the EuroCup, where he eventually took on the captaincy.

Colom reflected on his time at MoraBanc as defending the colours of "the club of my life," citing historic campaigns with Copa del Rey berths, playoff runs, and memorable European matches. He described his journey from youth affiliate to captain as "a pride that's hard to explain."

After the club's 2021 relegation, Colom joined Peñas Huesca in LEB Oro before spending three seasons at CB Zaragoza—his "second home"—across EBA, Tercera FEB, and Segona FEB divisions.

A mainstay with Andorra's national team over eight seasons in two stints, Colom earned multiple medals at Small States of Europe Championships and was named MVP at the 2021 event. "The national team has been where I've enjoyed playing basketball the most," he said, expressing thanks to the Andorran Basketball Federation. Representing Andorra in European and Small States competitions remained his greatest honour.
