Two European under-19 beach volleyball qualifiers will energise Encamp's Prada de la Moles area over the next two weeks. Local Andorran pairs, fresh from competitions, aim to shine with federation backing and sponsorship from AndBank.
Key Points
- Men's qualifier: July 10-12; Women's U19: July 17-19 at Piscina de la Mola court.
- Andorran teams in top shape after Catalan tournaments; last year won bronze for Euros spot.
- Events boost local sport in Prada de Moles; AndBank main sponsor.
- FAVB optimistic despite youth category challenges; draws crowds of all ages.
Encamp will host two qualifiers for the European under-19 beach volleyball championships over the next two weeks, positioning the parish as a key hub for the sport across Europe.
The Men's Beach Volley Qualifier takes place from July 10 to 12, followed by the SC under-19 Women's Beach Volley Qualifier from July 17 to 19. Both events will unfold at the beach volleyball court next to the Piscina de la Mola in Encamp.
The Andorran Volleyball Federation (FAVB) approaches the competitions with optimism, buoyed by the preparation of its local teams. Federation president Xavier Folguera noted the challenge of gauging opponents in youth categories, where performance can shift rapidly year to year due to age-group changes. He expressed satisfaction with Andorra's male and female pairs, highlighting last year's strong showing: one duo secured third place, earning a spot at the under-18 European championships in Turkey. "We had few expectations then, but achieved bronze, which got them to the under-18 Euros. That's significant," Folguera said.
Andorran athletes arrive in top shape, Folguera added, having competed in multiple Catalan tournaments in recent months. This steady action has left them "well-seasoned" for the continental challenge.
Encamp Sports Councillor Nino Marot described the fortnight as "very intense," praising the events for energising the Prada de Moles area. The court has already become a social gathering spot for amateurs of all ages, who drop in for casual games without needing formal teams. "We're grateful to the federation for drawing in the youth—and everyone else—in the afternoons. It's fun, inclusive, and boosts the sport locally," Marot said.
AndBank serves as a main sponsor. Banca País president Maria Suárez welcomed the new edition, underscoring the bank's commitment to sport and its fruitful partnership with the FAVB since earlier this year. "We've accomplished a lot in just a few months," she said, urging the public to attend. "Come watch—it's a privileged setting." Suárez extended thanks to organisers, collaborators, and players, wishing them luck over the two competition weekends.
