Nearly 100 runners kicked off the Canillo Trail Races on Saturday with the 24km and 16km events, both starting from El Tarter and winding through the parish's natural landscapes.
In the longer 24km race, which featured 1,450m of positive elevation gain, Pere Antoni Borràs claimed victory in the men's category with a time of 2 hours, 37 minutes and 13 seconds. Adrià Navarrete of Trail Xics Montseny finished second in 2:47:09, followed by Albert Sesé of Fast Competició in 2:48:13. Coral Güell topped the women's field at 3:26:02, ahead of Sandra Ibáñez in 3:31:02 and Liliana Cunha of Fast Triatló in 3:28:13.
The 16km event, with 600m of ascent and highlights including the Vall d'Incles, saw Eneko Mariño win the men's race in 1:43:58—nearly six minutes clear of Martí Vallbona of Unió Excursionista Vic (1:49:52). Carlos Gámez of Konsports took third place in 1:58:41. Mònica Garcia led the women home in 2:33:44, with Mamen del Castillo of Corredors CAT second in 2:34:28 and Ariadna Ramil third in 2:36:25.
The two-day competition continues on Sunday with a 25km race—1,600m of elevation gain—starting at 9am, followed by the 15km at 9:30am. Results from both days will determine the overall standings in four combined categories: Grand Marathon (24km + 25km), Marathon (24km + 15km), Long Trail (16.5km + 25km) and Speed Trail (16.5km + 15km).
Organised with sponsorship and support from Canillo council and the government, the event showcases the parish's high mountains, forests, valleys, lakes and peaks over 2,000m.
