Nahuel Carabaña, the Andorran athlete representing the Federació Andorrana d’Atletisme, failed to qualify for the final of the 3,000 metres steeplechase at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, finishing 14th in his heat with a time of 8:57.80.
Carabaña entered the competition ranked 11th among participants but without a season-best time, having recovered from physical niggles that limited his preparation. To advance, he needed a top-eight finish in the opening round. He started steadily in the middle of the pack, holding eighth place after the first kilometre and the front group within reach.
The Andorran built momentum, climbing to fifth by the 2,000-metre mark and appearing on course for qualification. However, he faded in the closing stages, dropping contact with the leaders around 500 metres out. Lacking the energy to respond, he slipped further in the final lap, crossing the line antepenúltim in his heat and visibly exhausted—45 seconds off his personal best of 8:12.8.
Italy's Osama Zoghlami won the heat, finishing 23.8 seconds ahead of Carabaña. The result ends Carabaña's campaign at the championships short of medal contention, hampered by his disrupted build-up.
