Andorran Íria Medina Takes 4th in South American Cup Giant Slalom

Andorran skier Íria Medina finished fourth in the opening giant slalom of the South American Cup at Chapelco, Argentina, posting a combined time of 2:37.71 across two runs and missing third place by 0.17 seconds.

The Andorran sat third after the first run, 0.64 seconds off the lead, before clocking the fourth-fastest second-run time of 1.01 seconds slower to hold her position. Argentina's Francesca Baruzzi won in 2:36.06, with Germany's Jessica Hilzinger second at 0.61 seconds behind and Switzerland's Eliane Stoessel third in 2:37.54.

Medina's result moved her up to second in the South American Cup giant slalom standings on 150 points, behind leader Kjersti Moritz of the United States on 180. Germany's Fabiana Dorigo holds third with 140.

Fellow Andorran Clàudia Garcia did not finish her first run but has another opportunity in Tuesday's second giant slalom at the venue.

In the men's event, Bartumeu Gabriel placed 23rd in 2:37.40 after starting 19th and posting the 26th second-run time. Maià Font was 24th in 2:37.64, improving from 34th with the 19th-quickest second run. Max Black-Roca finished 31st in 2:38.31, Àlvar Calvo 32nd in 2:38.38 and Jan de Visa 43rd in 2:41.77. American Nicholas Unkovskoy took victory in 2:33.17.
