FC Andorra Draws CD Varea in Copa del Rey First Round

The Andorran club, coached by Carles Manso, will travel to Varea's home ground for the preliminary stage clash. Varea qualified as runners-up last season and remains unbeaten in recent league play.

Key Points

  • Match at Estadi Ángel Aguado in Logroño, Oct 27-29.
  • Varea (Tercera RFEF) hosts as lower-ranked team; no prior meetings.
  • Draw at Ciudad del Fútbol; Varea 8th in group with 7 points.
  • FC Andorra limited to regional opponents like La Rioja teams.

FC Andorra will face CD Varea from Logroño in the Copa del Rey first round, with the single-leg tie set for Varea's home ground, Estadi Ángel Aguado, between 27 and 29 October.

The draw took place on Monday at the Luis Aragonés Hall in the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, pitting the Andorran club—coached by Carles Manso and appearing for an eighth consecutive season—against the Tercera RFEF side from La Rioja's Group 16. Under tournament rules for this preliminary stage, Varea hosts as the lower-ranked team.

The clubs have no prior official encounters. FC Andorra's participation was restricted by geographic rules to opponents from Catalonia, Aragon, the Basque Country, Navarra or La Rioja. Varea advanced from Group 2 of the draw, which also yielded matchups like Sestao River vs Espanyol, Cuarte vs Girona, Utebo vs Sabadell, Tudelano vs Zaragoza, and Manresa vs Sant Andreu. The event covered 112 teams across seven divisions.

Currently eighth in their group with seven points from five matches—one win and four draws—Varea earned their spot as runners-up last season on 73 points. The group champions, UD Logroñés B, were ineligible as a reserve team. Varea had reached the promotion playoffs the prior year but lost to Oyonesa.

The draw was marred by two unresolved ties from the previous round on Sunday, including Atlètic Unió Güímar vs Sporting de Hortaleza, halted by pre-match trouble. Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzán condemned the incidents and called for fans to embrace the competition with passion and respect.

FC Andorra heads to La Rioja aiming to progress beyond a team three divisions below in Spain's structure.
