Pas de la Casa Renovation Adds Elite Swimming and Cycling Zone

Renovation of the Pas de la Casa sports centre introduces specialized equipment for high-volume training by elite swimmers and cyclists. It supports year-round camps with tools for strength, technique, and injury prevention at altitude.

Key Points

  • High-performance area features indoor bikes, smart rollers, and digital tracking for cyclists.
  • Pool cameras and stroke-speed machines support swimmers' technique and endurance training.
  • Facility targets short-term camps in swimming, cycling, triathlon, and team sports.
  • Altitude training complements local hotels for Olympic-level athletes, including 2028 LA Games prep.

The Pas de la Casa sports centre renovation will include a high-performance zone tailored for elite swimmers and cyclists.

A tender for gym equipment supply and installation at the under-construction facility meets demands from both regular users and year-round high-level training camps in the border village. Encamp communal councillor for Finance, Sports and Economic Reactivation Nino Marot told the Andorran News Agency that the setup addresses the intense workloads of top athletes. "The various camps have requested specific tools and machines because elite users demand much higher volumes than amateur subscribers," he said.

The tender outlines professional indoor bikes, smart rollers, digital performance tracking systems and compatibility with platforms such as Garmin Connect, Strava and Zwift. This swimming- and cycling-focused area will aid strength, endurance, technique, coordination and injury prevention.

Swimmers will benefit from a pool camera capturing movements to assess strokes and in-water progress. In the strength area, machines will replicate stroke speeds and other metrics to handle their high training volumes, Marot added.

The equipment supports existing camps in swimming, cycling, skating, triathlon and team sports including football, basketball and handball. Unlike Sant Cugat's High-Performance Centre, which accommodates permanent residents, Pas de la Casa targets short- and medium-term stays tied to local hotels and apartments. "We're positioning it as a complement to our hotel and apartment offerings for athletes staying two or three months or visiting two or three times a year," Marot said.

Altitude training and accommodation boost their results, with some athletes already completing one- or two-month residencies. The council has agreements in place for events such as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics to host additional camps.

Construction advances on or ahead of schedule, Marot confirmed.
