Encamp's CorreCanins Dog-Running Event Expands to Three Routes on Oct 2-3

Encamp's CorreCanins dog-running event is set for October 2 and 3, with organizers aiming for around 100 participants in the second edition while capping entries at 150 to match the capacity of Plaça dels Arínsols.

The event has expanded to three routes confined to the parish: a 3 km urban loop with minimal gradient for families, beginners, and casual participants; a 7.5 km mountain trail featuring 450 metres of positive elevation through Fener de l’Olla, the Engolasters path, Pardines, Grau de la Molina, and Camí de l’Ovella; and a new 12.5 km option with 700 metres of ascent extending to Engolasters lake and Bosc Negre.

Nino Marot, the parish councillor for Sports, Finance, and Economic Reactivation, described the cap as driven by the main square's logistics, which will serve as the start, finish, and social hub. He stressed its "social-local" focus, prioritizing Andorran residents over mass tourism, though some Catalan canicross groups have shown interest. "When you've finished the race, you have this social point," Marot noted.

Each race pairs one handler with one dog—not necessarily their own—with mandatory pre-event veterinary checks. Organizers can halt teams if animal welfare issues like exhaustion or dehydration arise.

Plaça dels Arínsols hosts the event village, dorsal collection, and vet controls on Friday from 5pm to 9pm, with music and activities. Races begin Saturday: 12.5 km at 9.30am, 7.5 km at 9.45am, and 3 km at 10.15am, followed by agility sessions, GosSOS workshops, a police dog demo, and awards.

Fees are €10 for 3 km, €15 for 7.5 km, and €20 for 12.5 km, including a t-shirt, water bottle, dog goodie bag, timing, refreshments, medical support, and medals for both handler and pet. Two euros per entry supports GosSOS Andorra's work in animal protection, sheltering, and adoptions. Around 30 people have registered so far.
