Encamp's CorreCanins Dog-Running Event Expands to Three Routes on Oct 2-3

Encamp's CorreCanins dog-running event will feature three routes on October 2 and 3, including a 3 km urban course and mountain trails of 7.5 km and 12.5 km tailored to varying fitness levels.

Organizers expect about 100 participants for the second edition, with a maximum of 150 to suit the capacity at Plaça dels Arínsols, the central hub for starts, finishes, and social activities. All dogs must undergo mandatory veterinary checks beforehand to confirm they are fit to compete, with officials able to disqualify teams showing signs of fatigue or dehydration during races.

The routes stay within the parish boundaries: the 3 km option offers a gentle urban loop ideal for families and novices; the 7.5 km trail covers 450 metres of ascent via Fener de l’Olla, the Engolasters path, Pardines, Grau de la Molina, and Camí de l’Ovella; while the longest 12.5 km path climbs 700 metres to landmarks like Engolasters lake and Bosc Negre.

Nino Marot, Encamp's councillor for Sports, Finance, and Economic Reactivation, highlighted the event's community emphasis on local residents rather than large tourist crowds, despite interest from some Catalan canicross teams. He pointed to the main square as a key gathering spot post-race.

The event village at Plaça dels Arínsols opens Friday from 5pm to 9pm for bib collection, vet checks, music, and activities. Races kick off Saturday at 9.30am with the 12.5 km, followed by 7.5 km at 9.45am and 3 km at 10.15am. The day continues with dog agility trials, GosSOS workshops, a police K9 demonstration, and podium ceremonies.

Entry costs €10 for 3 km, €15 for 7.5 km, and €20 for 12.5 km. Packages include a t-shirt, water bottle, pet goodie bag, chip timing, refreshments, medical aid, and medals for handler and dog. Two euros from each fee aids GosSOS Andorra's animal welfare, shelter, and adoption efforts. Roughly 30 entries are confirmed so far.
