Màximo Sánchez and Clàudia Herrera won the men's and women's triathlon categories at the third Copa d’Andorra de Triatló, the first edition held entirely in Andorra.
The sprint-distance event took place on Sunday, organised by Club Triatló Serradells Andorra and the Federació Andorrana de Triatló (Fatri). It returned to Andorran soil after two prior editions in Catalonia and included aquathlon and the debut aquabike competition.
Sánchez completed the triathlon in 1:09:29, ahead of Carlos Mejía in 1:11:35 and Aran Jorge in 1:14:49. Herrera recorded 1:25:24 to top the women's field, with Lydia Cachafeiro at 1:27:41 and Lara Miquel at 1:34:04.
Harry Cull won the men's aquathlon in 37:04, followed by Filipe Pinheiro and Aitor Lizama. Mar Ponsa took the women's title in 36:56, ahead of Tamara Benavides.
In aquabike, Vicenç Jorge Seco claimed victory in 1:02:22, with Eduard Pallisé in second.
A highlight was the first participation of a paralympic relay team from the Federació Andorrana d’Esports Adaptats (Fadea).
José Antonio Esteban, president of Club Triatló Serradells Andorra, praised the new bike course. He said it created an attractive circuit for both athletes and organisers, adding that the aim is to expand the event and soon hold an Olympic-distance edition with swimming at Engolasters.
