Inter d'Escaldes suffered a 2-0 defeat to French Ligue 2 side Rodez in a demanding preseason friendly, though the match proved far more competitive than the scoreline suggested.
The Andorran team, preparing for their Conference League debut, played away in Rodez and showed a strong performance across both halves. They controlled much of the play, generating clear opportunities from Domi, Soule, and Faysal in the first period, yet the teams remained level at halftime.
Coach Felip Ortiz introduced a completely refreshed lineup after the break, with Inter continuing to dominate proceedings. Borja posed the biggest danger, earning three standout chances: a header saved by the Rodez goalkeeper, a curling effort that grazed the post, and a chipped attempt also denied at the last moment. Yerai tested the keeper late as Inter pressed forward.
Rodez's goalkeeper made several key stops, while Inter's Álex denied Nagera on a counter. Pochettino stood firm in the home goal for much of the game.
The outcome turned in the final stages, with Essimi opening the scoring in the 85th minute after his shot deflected off Joly and deceived Pochettino. Nsona then volleyed in a cross from Essimi at the back post three minutes later to confirm the win.
Ortiz praised his players' efforts afterward, describing them as a "genial esforç" by both lineups. He expressed satisfaction at competing "de tu a tu" against professional opposition and taking away positive lessons. "Estic molt satisfet de l’esforç que hem fet i de competir de tu a tu," the Inter coach said.
