Tabak Urges Andorra to Boost Energy for Joventut Clash

MoraBanc Andorra's coach demands improved physicality and intensity ahead of their Liga ACB away game against Supercopa champions Joventut Badalona. Injuries hampered preseason prep, but key players are set to return.

Key Points

  • Žan Tabak blames preseason injuries for fitness issues after Obradoiro loss
  • Calls for higher intensity to match Joventut's physicality and depth
  • Praises hosts' Supercopa title and stars like Rubio, Laprovíttola
  • Rafa Luz expected to play; McGriff and Andronikashvili available despite injuries

MoraBanc Andorra coach Žan Tabak has urged his players to raise their physical levels and energy for this afternoon's Liga ACB away match against Joventut Badalona at 6pm, building on a full training week after the opening loss to Obradoiro.

At Thursday's pre-match press conference, Tabak explained that the team's fitness issues stemmed from preseason injuries, which created a chain reaction affecting rotations and tactical preparation. He rejected any suggestion that his post-Obradoiro comments criticised the physical trainer, stating no coach can prepare injured players. "We're in this position because of those injuries," he said.

Tabak repeated his call for greater intensity than in the debut. "We must take that extra step in energy from our last game," he emphasised, focusing on matching Joventut's physicality to disrupt their rhythm and stay competitive until the final minutes.

Praising the hosts, Tabak highlighted their Supercopa ACB title win at Palau Olímpic de Badalona—the venue for today's game—and new signings like Nico Laprovíttola and Álex Reyes alongside Ricky Rubio. "It's a talented, veteran team that knows how to play and is more complete than last year," he said. He cautioned against fixating on star guards, pointing to depth with players like Hakanson, Ellis and experienced big men. "You don't win the Supercopa with just two players."

Injuries cloud Andorra's lineup. Rafa Luz carries an adductor issue but is expected to feature, while Cameron McGriff—absent for the opener due to preseason lumbociatalgia—completed only his second practice yesterday and should be available. New signing Rati Andronikashvili has administrative clearance for his debut.
