The Bruna d’Andorra cattle breed is sponsoring the Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup of speed events, set for 27-28 February and 1 March on El Tarter's Àliga slope. This national initiative, the breed's first major outing since its new branding launch, aims to link livestock farming, territory and sport via the competition's global spotlight.
Environment, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Guillem Casal described the Bruna cows as "World Cup cows," highlighting around 1,800 breeding females in Andorra that graze ski areas like Àliga in summer. "They are the gardeners who keep the slope in exceptional condition," he said, stressing the need to showcase farmers' efforts and position the breed as a national symbol.
The breed's logo will appear on a banner at the new jump just before the finish line for maximum TV exposure. A named section of the course and a themed tent in the event village will offer educational activities, children's games, promotional items like bells and stickers, and screenings of the documentary *Camins de tradició* on transhumance—a UNESCO-recognized intangible heritage. Tasting areas led by Ramaders d’Andorra will feature local Bruna beef products.
To foster national pride, about 15 large cowbells will ring during the bib draw, with 2,000 small ones distributed to spectators. Identity messages such as "Som de muuuntanya" and its English version will appear around the venue. The Ilú shop by Fundació Privada Nostra Senyora de Meritxell will sell Bruna keychains. Some promotions, including Bruna beef in hotels and restaurants, will extend beyond the event.
Organising committee director general David Hidalgo called it a long-sought element for authenticity. "Many spectators seek that in the places they visit," he said, adding that the breed fits Andorra's summer-winter territorial link. He joked about Swiss gruyère envy but celebrated: "We said Bruna d’Andorra. Now we have the product."
