20-Year-Old Motorcyclist Hospitalised After Head-On Crash with Car in Santa Coloma

A 20-year-old motorcyclist injured in a head-on collision with a car on Avinguda Salou in Santa Coloma on Sunday has been admitted to hospital in stable condition, with a minor pelvic fracture requiring no surgery.

The crash happened around 6:10 p.m. near the Viena restaurant, ahead of the Prat Salit roundabout. According to police, the rider of an Andorran-plated motorcycle, heading downhill, moved into the central lane—then set for uphill traffic—to pass another vehicle. He struck an oncoming Andorran-plated car head-on.

Emergency responders, including police, firefighters, traffic agents from Andorra la Vella, and a SUM ambulance, attended the scene. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital for checks and remains stable on a general ward, hospital sources confirmed later Sunday. The car suffered heavy damage, but no other injuries occurred. Witnesses stopped their vehicles to assist and observe.

The incident closed the CG-1 between the Comella and Prat Salit roundabouts for about an hour, between roughly 6:15 p.m. and 7 p.m., amid heavy outbound traffic as tourists and residents headed toward the border after the weekend. Downhill drivers turned around on police instructions, with diversions via Avinguda Enclar and Avinguda Santa Coloma. Queues built in both directions, including on Avinguda Tarragona, before traffic resumed.

Police are investigating the circumstances. The area handles high volumes, especially Sundays.
